Al-Madina Memories

Hafsah and The Nursery Chair
Throwback to sometime in 2015, one of the most notorious Al-Madina stories, remembered by many. We had a teacher at Al-Madina who must not be named due to privacy reasons. She was a good teacher, some might say. Let's call her Miss Dove. Miss Dove told everyone at the school that she had gotten engaged to some dude who lived outside of our town, in some big city. At Al-Madina, everyone who entered the building was automatically treated as a family member, so hosting an engagement party for Miss Dove on her last day of teaching was inevitable. It was a small party, considering the small school and the small amount of students who were enrolled there, but it was great fun. Everyone was hyper and full of excitement, just like any other party at the school... trust me, we had a lot of these.

After everyone had their mini feast, it was time for prayer. Most people had actually finished praying at this time except from a girl named Hafsah - I've decided to keep her real name - She was praying in one of the very small, rarely used classrooms upstairs where I and two friends were chatting. When we saw that Hafsah had entered the room, we decided to move towards the side to give her some space to complete her prayer. When we moved, Hafsah made the assumption that we had broken her prayer and then she continued to repeatedly re-start it without any real reason. One of my friends, Sobia was infamous for being mischievous and always had a few tricks up her sleeve. We will miss those days when breaking rules didn't seem so bad.

Sobia's plan was revolutionary for life in Al-Madina and has definitely become one of the most memorable moments in its short-lived history of only 14 years. Sobia stood up from her place and walked to the front of the room with the other two of us following closely behind. She said loudly, "Come on guys, let's go. She [Hafsah] keeps restarting her prayer because of us." Sobia proceeded to open and close the classroom door making Hafsah believe that the three of us had left. Honestly, the whole time this was happening I believed Hafsah knew we were lying, but she genuinely believed we had gone. Hafsah continued with her prayer, finally at peace when Sobia noticed a stack of plastic nursery chairs against the wall next to us. She picked up a chair and sneakily placed it right behind Hafsah. When Hafsah bent down to the 'Ruku' position of the prayer, she tripped, falling on top the chair. Her prayer was broken, for real this time. Hafsah let out a loud scream, shock and horror.

My other friend, and the other author of this blog @SRKsWifey laughed out loud, unable to contain her laughter. Before Hafsah could turn around to see who was behind this, @SRKsWifey and I had already escaped. Sobia was the last one out of the room and got busted. Hafsah noticed Sobia and was very angry at this point of time. She stormed out of the room and told a teacher what had happened. Hafsah told Mrs Hungry-Hippo (One of my most disliked teachers at the school!) what Sobia had done. A few moments after the incident, @SRKsWifey and I were walking around and saw Mrs Hungry-Hippo having a stern chat with Sobia. It really wasn't that bad, but Mrs Hungry-Hippo loved to feel in control. I hate her. Sorry.
